子供が少なくなったので、巨勢小学校は2006年に廃校（はいこう）になりました。

We have a lot of abolished schools in Japan.
日本には廃校になった学校がたくさんあります。
It’s common things that abolished schools will be the headquarters of the event, because there are big useful space.
廃校は広く使いやすいので、イベントの拠点（きょてん）とされていることが多いです。
But We can’t use some abolished schools, because those aren’t the earthquake-proof standard and the safety standard for the use of buildings.
しかし、一部の廃校は耐震基準（地震で壊れないための決まり）を満たしていないため利用できません。
It’s the problem in the countryside.

だから、廃校で精神統一（せいしんとういつ）の修行をしています。

廃校は修行するのにもってこいの場所です。
The most famous bronze statue was Ninomiya Kinjiro at the elementary school.
小学校にある銅像として一番有名だったのが二宮金次郎（にのみやきんじろう）の銅像です。
He was a poor.
二宮金次郎は貧乏（びんぼう）でした。
But he studied very hard, he succeeded.
でも、一生懸命勉強して成功しました。
So basically, he is a symbol of a hard worker.
つまり、二宮金次郎像は勤勉（きんべん）の象徴（しょうちょう）なのです。
For that reason, almost all of elementary schools had a statue of Ninomiya Kinjiro about 50 years ago.
そのため、50年ほど前にはほとんどの小学校に二宮金次郎像がありました。
But times have changed.
だけど時代がかわりました。
Some people says, “It’s dangerous reading books while walking.”
「本を読みながら歩くと危険だ！」と指摘（してき）する人が出てきたのです。
Nowadays, we rarely see that statue.
最近では、二宮金次郎像を見かけることはほとんどなくなりました。
