Kakizome(Calligraphy)書初め【New Year Special Event】

Kakizome(書初め)

I am in 4th grade of elementary school.
ボクは小学4年生です。

The public elementary school of Japan has vacations.
日本の小学校には長期休暇があります。

  • Spring vacation
    春休み(about 3/20~4/8)
  • Summer vacation
    夏休み(about 7/25~8/31)
  • Winter vacation
    冬休み(about 12/22~1/7)

And I have to do my homework during each vacations.
そして、それぞれの休みに宿題があります。

My homework in this winter vacation is “Kakizome” .
ボクのこの冬休みの宿題は「書き初め」です。

What is Kakizome?(書き初めとは)

“Kakizome” is calligraphy for the first time in the year.
書き初めとは、その年の初めに書く習字のことです。

Usually, kakizome is held on January 2nd.
通常は1月2日に行います。

You write the lucky words, the favorite words, the goal for this year, the special words for New Year.
新年の目標や、縁起のよい言葉、好きな言葉、お正月にまつわる言葉などを書きます。

 

Tools for Calligraphy(習字・書道に必要な道具)

Calligraphy(習字)

  1. inkstone and ink
    硯(すずり)・墨(すみ)
  2. brush
    筆(ふで)
  3. underlay
    毛氈(もうせん)
  4. paperweight
    文鎮(ぶんちん)
  5. calligraphy paper
    半紙(はんし)

 

inkstone and ink~硯(すずり)

A stone upon which water is poured and an inkstick is rubbed to produce ink, called inkstone.
硯(すずり)は墨するための道具で、石で出来ています。

 

ink~墨(すみ)

The ingredients of the ink stick are mainly soot and glue.
墨は、すすと膠(にかわ)から作られています。

 

brush~筆(ふで)

The writing brush is made from the hair of the animals such as horses.
筆は、馬などの動物の毛から作られています。

 

underlay~毛氈(もうせん)

The underlay for calligraphy made of the wool about thickness 2mm.
厚さ2mm前後のフェルトで出来た書道用下敷きです。

 

paperweight~文鎮(ぶんちん)

It’s a paperweight.
重しです。

 

calligraphy paper~半紙(はんし)

It’s the special paper for calligraphy.
書道用の紙です。

It’s very thin.
とても薄いです。

 

How to ”Kakizome”

Kakizome(書初め)

You put an inkstone in the handedness side and get ready to be able to write it anytime.
利き手側に硯(すずり)を置き、いつでも書ける準備をします。

The most important point is the concentration.
集中することが一番大切です。

Calligraphy(習字)

You hold paper in check by the hand which is not a handedness lightly.
利き手ではないほうの手で、軽く紙を抑えます。

You have straight a brush and write it.
筆をまっすぐ持って書きます。

You dry it for a while if you finish writing it.
書き終わったら、しばらく乾かします。

ぜひ一度体験してみください。

But be careful!
でも気を付けて!

If the ink gets on your clothes, it cannot be easily removed.
墨が付いたら取れないよ。
